Dear Luma jewellery is designed for everyday moments, but each piece should be treated with care to help preserve its finish, shine and shape over time. Many of our pieces may include sterling silver, gold-plated sterling silver, gold vermeil, gold-tone finishes, moissanite, lab-grown diamonds, lab-grown gemstones, pearls, mother of pearl, enamel or other delicate decorative details. Each material has its own character, and natural changes may occur with regular wear.

As a general rule, jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Avoid contact with water, sweat, perfume, lotion, sunscreen, hairspray, makeup, cleaning products, chlorine, salt water and other harsh chemicals. Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping, cleaning or applying skincare and fragrance. These everyday products can affect plating, dull stones, mark pearls or mother of pearl, and speed up tarnishing on silver.

After wear, gently wipe your jewellery with a soft dry cloth to remove oils and residue. Store each piece separately in a pouch, jewellery box or soft-lined case to help prevent scratching, tangling and rubbing between pieces. Chains should be fastened before storage to reduce knots, and adjustable rings should be handled gently, as repeated bending may weaken the metal or damage the finish.

Gold-plated and vermeil pieces have a layer of gold over a base metal, often sterling silver. This finish is delicate and may naturally soften or fade over time depending on wear, skin chemistry and care. To extend the life of the plating, keep these pieces dry, avoid friction, and do not use polishing cloths, silver dips, chemical cleaners or ultrasonic cleaners unless the product page specifically says they are suitable.

Sterling silver may naturally tarnish when exposed to air, moisture, sweat and chemicals. Plain sterling silver can usually be gently refreshed with a suitable silver polishing cloth, but polishing cloths and silver cleaners should not be used on plated pieces, pearls, mother of pearl, enamel or delicate stone-set designs unless confirmed safe.

Moissanite, lab-grown diamonds and lab-grown gemstones are generally durable, but the setting, plating and surrounding details may still be delicate. Wipe stone-set jewellery gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or impact. Pearls and mother of pearl are organic materials and should be treated more gently than most stones; avoid soaking, scrubbing, chemical cleaners and ultrasonic cleaners, and put pearl pieces on only after perfume, skincare and hairspray have dried.

Earrings should be kept clean and dry, especially posts and backs. For hygiene reasons, do not share earrings. If your earrings are eligible for return, they must be unused, unworn and returned with original packaging or hygiene seals intact.

Please note that wear over time is normal, especially for plated finishes and delicate materials. Tarnishing, fading of plating, small surface marks or changes caused by water, chemicals, perfume, sweat, skin chemistry or improper storage are not considered manufacturing faults.
